Dr. Akhil was born in Kerala but raised in Bangalore, where he completed his schooling at St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School. An active sportsman in his formative years, he played hockey, football, and participated in track events—experiences that nurtured his competitive spirit, sense of team work, hardworking and utmost discipline. This early exposure to sports and movement laid the foundation for his keen interest in sports medicine and later, the dynamic field of orthopaedics and spine surgery.
His academic journey in medicine began with his MBBS from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore. His passion for surgery and musculoskeletal health led him to pursue a Master’s in Orthopaedics at Fr. Muller Medical College, Mangalore. During these years, he developed a focused interest in spine surgery, drawn by its complexity and the profound impact it has on patients' quality of life. To refine his skills further, he undertook a formal Spine Surgery Fellowship under the Manipal University, where he trained in advanced techniques including minimally invasive procedures, deformity correction, complex revision surgeries and Robotic Spine Surgery.
His career path reflects a broad spectrum of clinical experiences across both rural and urban healthcare settings. From serving as Chief Medical Officer in rural Kerala and Karnataka for 18 months to working as a Senior Orthopaedic Registrar at HOSMAT Hospital and Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, he gained not only surgical expertise but also a holistic understanding of healthcare delivery and patient-centered medicine.
He currently practices as a Spine Surgeon at Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore, with a focused goal of further refining his surgical skills and embracing the latest innovations in Spine Surgery, including Robotic and Endoscopic Spine techniques.
